3 Reasons You Should Prioritize Stormwater Maintenance

Protecting your property involves more than just maintaining what is visible at the surface. One of the most overlooked yet vital components of any developed site is the stormwater system. In our latest video, we break down why prioritizing this maintenance is essential for your business and the world around us.

There are three compelling reasons to stay on top of your stormwater care:

  • Environmental Stewardship: Every piece of litter on your property, from plastic bottle caps to cigarette butts, can end up in our local creeks, rivers, and oceans if your system is not cleaned. Proper maintenance ensures we preserve these beloved waterways for future generations.
  • Protecting Your Investment: Stormwater infrastructure is a massive financial commitment. A single underground chamber can cost upwards of half a million dollars. Neglecting maintenance can lead to system failures, such as a broken sump pump, which can disrupt your operations and negatively impact your tenants.
  • Business Compliance: Fulfilling your city compliance obligations is simply good business. Honoring these agreements through regular monitoring and maintenance prevents site issues and keeps your operations running smoothly.

Don’t let your investment go unmaintained or risk slowing down the very operations that drive your success. Watch the full video to learn how preventative care can save you money and protect the environment.

Three reasons why you should prioritize storm water maintenance.

0:03 Be A Good Environment Steward

Reason number one is being a good steward of the environment. We want to preserve the waterways for generations to come. Everything that lands on your property as a developed site will make its way into the waterways if unfiltered and not cleaned out. So these are the creeks that are nearest to your property, the rivers, the lakes, the oceans. We want to make sure that the water cap, water bottles, or the cigarette butts that are on your property aren’t going to make their way to our beloved waterways.

0:32 Investment Protection

Reason number two, we want to protect our investments. We invested millions of dollars in our developments. Just a small storm water system is going to cost you half a million dollars. One underground chamber is half a million dollars. You don’t want to spend all that money on your storm water vault to improve storm water quality and then just let it go unmaintained. If you’re installing a sump pump system, and you don’t maintain that sump pump system, that could fail. That’s going to impact your tenants. It’s going to impact your operations.

0:55 Keep Operations Moving

If you’re an owner-operator, the last thing you want to do is slow down the trucks coming in and out of your building that’s supposed to be shipping off materials—how you make your money. You don’t want to slow down those operations. So, we’re protecting our investment with preventive maintenance.

1:08 Stay In Compliance

The third part of that is compliance. So, it’s just good business. I’m a business owner. I want to do good business. When I sign an agreement with somebody, I want to honor that agreement. And when you have a city compliance obligation, then fulfill that obligation by monitoring and maintaining your storm water system. That’s going to do the other two things, too. That’s going to help prevent things from going awry on your site, and that’s going to help preserve the waterways for our loved ones. So, that’s three reasons why you should maintain your storm water system.
